Turning off mail forwarding for students End of mail forwarding to external mail servers as of the end of March 2022

Currently, students with a Uni-ID can set up automatic email forwarding of their mails in Identity Management, which redirects all incoming emails to an email address of your choice.

After all employee redirections were cancelled at the end of September and new students were no longer able to set up external forwarding, the remaining student redirections will also be switched off at the end of the winter semester 2021/2022. This will be implemented by the end of March.

The background for this step is that recently there have been increasing problems with external mail providers and redirected e-mails from mail servers have either been delivered with a delay by the spam filters, moved to the spam folder or even discarded. However, since the university depends on internal messages being delivered reliably, this leaves us no other choice. In future, it will only be possible to redirect from one address to another address. This can be useful, for example, if students also have a staff account.

Affected persons will be specifically contacted by the HRZ before the existing redirections to external addresses are successively deleted.
The Alumni section is excluded from this measure.
Automatic redirections to University mail servers are still possible.

If possible, redirected e-mail accounts should be changed over in advance and retrieved elsewhere. Information on how to retrieve your address and how to set up a mail client (e.g. Outlook or Thunderbird) can be found on our website:
