Currently mails are circulating which warn of a "Check your e-mail account. How to avoid closed ones" and purport to come from the "IT Services, Information, Communication and Multimedia Centre (IKMZ), University of Bonn". These are phishing mails! Please delete these mails immediately.

Simple e-mails are generally not forgery-proof. You can never rely on the e-mail coming from the person indicated as the sender.

Therefore, be careful when dealing with e-mails.

  • Do not click on links
  • do not open any unknown attachments or follow any instructions if you are not sure that the e-mail comes from the right person.
  • If you have any doubts, briefly ask the suspected sender or consult your administrator.

Threat of data loss in case of misuse

In the case of affected accounts that have, for example, entered their Uni ID password on a dubious website, we are seeing more and more frequently that there is an immediate threat of data loss on the university systems. In an increasing number of cases, the university mailbox is deleted shortly afterwards and the account is misused for spam, etc. Restoring data here takes a considerable amount of time.

Mailboxes can be restored within a maximum of 7 days after deletion and are not completely successful in all cases.

Therefore: be careful

Be extremely careful where you enter passwords, if in doubt, better not and ask your institute's IT or us at the HRZ!
