Through this rallye, we would like to empower girls to actively discover technology and thereby, do our part in reducing the gender imbalance in technical jobs. We hope that our passion for technology catches on and would love to meet one or more of the participants in our successful apprenticeship programme for IT specialist for system integration. More information regarding that can be found here: Training.
Successful Girls' Day 2026 at the HRZ Successful Girls' Day 2026 at the HRZ
At this year’s Girls’ Day at the University IT and Data Center, we once again welcomed eight curious students who actively immersed themselves in the world of the HRZ during an exciting scavenger hunt. At various stations, they solved tricky puzzles and independently set up a working network.
Working in teams of two, the participants discovered how smartphones and laptops communicate with each other at home, which components make up a computer, and how to create secure passwords. Stations such as the 3D printer, workstation systems, and network communication offered diverse insights into the day-to-day work of the HRZ. At the same time, the girls collected important solution words in an interactive quiz, which they later needed to decrypt four computers.
Subsequent to atour of our server room and a well-deserved pizza break, it was time for the hands-on part: The participants wired up four Raspberry Pis, connected them to monitors, keyboards, and switches, and established a working network connection. Once activated with the master password, they were able to test the newly set up workstations in a computer game, cooperatively as well as competitively.
