Participation of the HRZ at the Bergfest 20251
Under the motto "Celebrate what you've achieved and power up for what's left" the Bergfest takes place in the botanical garden in Poppelsdorf for the third time. On Thursday, June 5 starting at 2 p.m., students can visit the different service and advice stations of the uni, reflext on their study situation and gain new skills at the empowerment stations. Once again the University IT and Data Center is represented with a booth and advises students regarding all IT-services that might be relevant during their studies: students can inform themselves about particularly recent subjects such as AI and HPC but also about data security using the cloud service Sciebo. Of course there is also an interactive element: During a quiz students will have the chance to learn fun facts about the HRZ and win a newly designed HRZ bag or a sustainable ball point pen for the next exam.

Girls' Day 2025 am Hochschulrechenzentrum7
How do smartphones and laptops at home communicate? Which parts is a computer made of? How do I create a safe password? How does our server room look, and what purpose does it serve? And how does a 3D-printer work? These questions, and many more, were explored at this year's Girls' Day at the University IT and Data Center. Once again we were happy to welcome 8 interested students at the HRZ! During a scavenger hunt through the HRZ, the students solved riddles for parts of a password with which four computers could be unnlocked at the end of the day. The participants visited the IT-helpdesk, the 3D-printer as well as the working stations and network communication. In an informative quiz key words were earned, which would later help to unlock the computers. After a tour through the server room and a well-deserved pizza break, the new knowledge was to be applied. Four raspberry pis had to be wired up correctly and were connected to screens, keyboards and switches in order to enter the master password and create a network connection. With these now fully configured working stations the girls were able to interact and play cooperative and competetive computer games.
